PAWS OF RUTHERFORD COUNTY (PETS ARE WORTH SAVING)
Their mission: To provide low cost or free resources for homeless animals and owned pets of Rutherford County residents in the areas of routine and emergency veterinary services, vaccine clinics, spay/neuter surgeries, pet food distribution, doghouses, TNR, and in special instances, rehoming. To this end, they hope to eliminate animal overpopulation, neglect, and the senseless killing of homeless and unwanted pets.
PAWS is a 501(c)3 volunteer-based organization dedicated to bringing No Kill to Rutherford County, NC. Their focus is to help owners keep their pets so they don't have to give them up to the county shelter or have them euthanized because they can't afford to provide for basic needs or veterinary care. Their core team of 15 volunteers, plus others who help with special annual projects, work tirelessly to promote, educate, and further the purpose and tenets of No Kill. They partner with other local animal rescues so that all their resources combined can work together for the greater good of the animals of Rutherford County.
Since their inception in 2013 PAWS has:
- Spayed and neutered just over 7,000 owned pets and stray/feral cats, mostly for free
- Spent $30,000 - $50,000 per year for emergency veterinary services for families who can't afford it
- Provided pet food for an average of 250 animals per month
- Re-homed over 500 dogs and cats through private adoptions or rescues. They have discontinued this program for the time being.
- Given out over 160 doghouses
- Hosted six Free Rabies, Vaccine, and Microchip Clinics that have served over 800 animals
